WAJA is planning for an Excellence Award 2008. It will honor the best three reports on print media, radio and television in the areas of conflicts prevention, peacekeeping and human rights.

Each prize-winner will receive funds. The three laureates would be chosen to take part in the conflicts prevention workshop scheduled for next September in Banjul.

CRITERA

To vie for the awards, candidates must be West African nationals;

• Entrants for the awards must be practicing journalists;
• Candidates can contest individually; hence they need no recommendation of a newspaper, editor, distributor, or audiovisual production firm. However, newspapers, editors, and distributors can nominate candidates;

SUBMISSION

• Broadcast journalists: Pieces of articles on human rights, conflict prevention and or peace keeping. Piece should have been broadcast between March 1st; 2007 to March 1st 2008.
• Print Newspapers and Magazines articles on human rights, conflict prevention and or peace keeping, Piece should have been published between March 1st; 2007 to March 1st 2008.

DEADLINE

All submissions must be made on or before July 20st, 2008. Submissions should be sent to National Unions or to the WAJA Headquarters, Immeuble UJAO, BP 1300, Hamdallaye, Bamako (Mali).
